Settlement in Minnesota

Gottlieb Emanuel Bullert arrived in New York in December 1853 and made his way to Jessenland Township in Sibley County, Minnesota — the heart of the German-Prussian immigrant community that would become known as Green Isle.

He was joined in this settlement by his half-brother David Wilhelm Erdmann Bullert (arrived May 1857 via Quebec) and his cousin Gottfried Bullert (arrived September 1856, New York). Together these three grandsons of Daniel Buller formed the nucleus of the Bullert family in America.

Sibley County, Minnesota was a destination for many West Prussian immigrants in the 1850s, drawn by available farmland and established German-speaking communities. The area around Green Isle and Jessenland Township became home to dozens of Bullert family members across multiple generations.
